Welcome to the Harris County Boards & Commissions Office page.

There are over 400 positions across more than 70 boards and commissions appointed by Harris County Commissioners Court. These public boards provide a formal structure for the inclusion of community voice in our democratic decision-making process. Your service on a board – and the unique experiences and expertise you possess – will help County leaders and policymakers better engage with our community so that governance is informed and responsive to the needs of all our communities.

B&C Office | The Boards & Commissions (B&C) Office was established by Commissioners Court in 2021 to manage the process of appointing resident volunteers to boards and commissions. The office also works closely with Commissioners Court and community stakeholders to encourage participation and identify qualified candidates.

Boards & Commissions | There are over 400 positions across more than 70 public boards and commissions serving advisory and decision-making roles, allowing members to make a meaningful impact on the community.

Harris County | Harris County covers over 1,700 square miles with an estimated 4.8 million residents. It is the nation’s third-largest County in population, and one of the fastest-growing counties with 35% growth since 2002. The County is a political subdivision of the State of Texas, and Commissioners Court is the governing body of the County.
