Daniel Santamaria was selected as the second Director of the Harris County Boards & Commissions Office in June 2023. He joined Harris County with nearly 17 years of local government experience, including his previous nine years during which he served as chief of staff to a Houston City Council Member.

As head of the Office of Boards & Commissions, Daniel is committed to cultivating public boards and commissions that are engaged, inclusive, and reflective of Harris County. With two decades of experience in local government, he understands the important role these bodies play in supporting effective governance and values the dedication and stewardship of residents who volunteer their time to serve.

As director, Daniel has worked to develop and strengthen both internal and external processes that support a more transparent and efficient appointment system, enhancing public engagement and organizational effectiveness. Today, the Office of Boards & Commissions manages and oversees over 500 positions across more than 80 public boards and commissions appointed by Harris County Commissioners Court.

Daniel grew up in the Spring Branch community in west Houston and continues to reside there with his wife and two sons. He has served on several advisory boards and remains an active board member of his civic association. In his time off, Daniel and his family enjoy supporting local charitable organizations and exploring Harris County’s vibrant food scene, festivals, and sporting events. He also enjoys cycling and has completed the Houston to Austin, Texas MS 150 charity bike ride three times.
