David Berry is the Harris County Administrator and Budget Officer. In these capacities, he oversees the financial well-being of the County and day to day operations of departments which report up to Commissioners Court.
Mr. Berry grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where his parents worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Growing up in Oak Ridge exposed him to some of the world’s premier scientists, but also to communities struggling to keep pace with a rapidly changing world. He graduated from Rice University with a degree in history and economics and was the proud recipient of a scholarship named after Barbara Jordan.
Mr. Berry began his career in the private sector, and was drawn to the growing renewable energy industry, which combined his interests in finance, government policy and positive social change. He went on to be the founder and Chief Financial Officer of a number of successful renewable energy companies.
He has served on the Boards of several non-profits, including the Partnership for the Advancement and Immersion of Refugees (PAIR) and the Memorial Park Conservancy. Mr. Berry resides with his wife, who is an attorney, and two children. He speaks passable Spanish and has made Harris County home for over 20 years.
