Harris County Residents Now Have A New Opportunity To Go Solar Through The “Switch Together” Campaign

Download the press release Harris County – (April 29, 2025) - The Harris County Office of Sustainability, part of the Office of County Administration (OCA), is proud to help promote a new opportunity for residents to access lower-cost, renewable energy options through Switch Together, a solar group purchasing program in partnership with Solar United Neighbors (SUN) and Harris County.

Through this collaboration, Harris County residents can now opt in to a limited-time program that offers discounted rooftop solar installations, battery storage, and EV chargers through a streamlined, vetted process. The program, which has already helped nearly 400 Texas households go solar since 2022, uses the power of group buying to reduce upfront costs and make clean energy more accessible.

“This initiative supports our Climate Justice Plan by bringing more affordable energy solutions to communities across Harris County,” said Lisa Lin, Director of the Office of Sustainability, OCA. “By helping residents tap into the Switch Together program, we’re reducing barriers to clean energy, lowering household energy bills, and building climate resilience from the ground up.”

As part of the County’s broader effort to implement equitable and community-driven climate solutions, OCA is working with Solar United Neighbors to support this campaign. The initiative directly contributes to CJP action areas focused on improving energy affordability and expanding access to renewable options, especially in underserved areas.

"If you've ever thought about going solar, now's the time," said Sam Silerio, Texas Program Director with Solar United Neighbors. "Switch Together provides members with a competitive bid from a vetted installer. You'll receive expert support every step of the way—from initial consultation through array installation and beyond."

About the Program
Switch Together simplifies the process of going solar by organizing a reverse auction where qualified solar installers compete to offer participants the lowest possible price. The most recent auction secured average savings of $6,565 per household. Participants may also be eligible for a 30% federal tax credit and other local incentives.

In addition to cost savings, residents receive personalized solar recommendations, education resources, and dedicated support from SUN throughout the process—from evaluation to installation and beyond.

How to Participate
Residents can learn more and register at: SwitchTogether.com/Solar/HarrisCounty. The deadline to accept a proposal is July 2, 2025. Registration is free, and there is no obligation to proceed with an installation.
